As Cat walked throughout the house party at Kansas University, she wasn’t planning– or even expecting– to meet the person she’d spend the rest of her life with. Yet this she did– and we’re so glad she did because this fun and playful Del Mar engagement session with Cat and David just showed us how they’re the kind of couple that people strive to be.
While David didn’t attend KU, there was something in the air that told him that he had to visit his friend that weekend. And luckily for him? It meant that he got to meet Cat; a woman who he’d come to love for her love and acceptance for all who she met. Walking out of his friend’s room, he wouldn’t have even guessed that he would have met such an incredible person as her– yet he did, and knew that he needed Cat in his life, whether she was near or far.
It seemed like their connection was instant; from David’s constant jokes to the way that Cat was able to always bring light to the conversation, they both knew that this chance encounter wouldn’t be the last time they saw one another.
After graduating, the two got to move together to San Diego. Both near Cat’s family and a chance for a fresh start, they got to know one another even better– and developed traditions like consistent dates to Mexican restaurants where they could enjoy tacos and a good margarita together. It was this tradition that followed them to Dallas two years later when they moved as they tried a new taco shop or Mexican restaurant for the first four months of their time there to find their perfect taco/margarita combo.
And 4 years later? The perfect Del Mar engagement session to represent their relationship and how goofy, fun, and personable they both are.
Growing up, Cat visited Del Mar beach nearly every weekend since she lived so close. So when we were talking to them about meaningful or beautiful places that they’d want to capture this moment at? They almost instantaneously knew that they wanted to do it at a place where she had had so many incredible and special moments growing up.
And the choice for this Del Mar engagement session wasn’t only special to Cat. It was where they as a couple had spent weekends lounging around during the summer, where they had walked around during spring and fall, and gotten to spend the first two years of their lives as they lived together, forming new memories together.
From the second we started this Del Mar engagement session, we could tell that Cat and David were incredibly comfortable with one another. Whether it was throwing their arms around one another, making one another laugh, or simply just posing for our cameras, they seemed to be in their own world. It was incredible watching the two of them just simply be.
Whether they were walking around the area, chatting it up with the people in the area, or just enjoying the time being together, Cat and David seemed like just being in one another’s presence was a gift. One of our absolute favorite parts of this session was watching Cat and David decide that they knew that they wanted photos in the water– despite it being an absolutely frigid temperature, the only thing that we could see in their photos was what a blast they were having, splashing each other and having fun.
To Cat and David; we cannot be more excited about capturing this moment in your lives– and that we’re working alongside YOU to do so. From the infectious happiness and laughter that you share with everyone around you to the way that you two just seem to complete one another, it’s truly a gift to us to be able to be around you. We can’t wait for your L’Auberge Del Mar wedding, and we promise to be there every step of the way to guarantee that you walk away with photos that’ll end up being loved and cherished forever.
