“I’ve been waiting my whole life to meet you.”
There’s a lot of reasons to celebrate the homecoming of HMM-364. It’s a helicopter squadron that’s been serving our country for over half a century. It’s full of heroes who have sacrificed so much for us and continue to do so every single day. And one of these incredible Marines is getting married tomorrow to an equally incredible woman! We are so thrilled to be a part of Kevin & Nicola’s lives, and being present for Kevin’s return from deployment was a huge honor.
It was amazing to be surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of people, excited beyond words to see their loved ones again — or in some cases, for the very first time. That banner — “I’ve been waiting my whole life to meet you” — describes the heart of every person there: from the babies who’d never been held by their dad, to the husbands and wives who’d felt like they’ve been waiting forever to see each other again. It’s also how a lot of those couples felt when they first met.
They say “distance makes the heart grow fonder,” and seeing Nicola & Kevin reunited after so long apart shows how true that is. The hard work, the worry, and the waiting finally pay off, showing both how strong they’ve become and how amazing they are together.
Congratulations, you two! We can’t wait for the next chapter!
