When Kassy walked into the children’s ministry to volunteer that first day that she and Danny met? She would have never expected that it would have ended up with this tooth-achingly sweet of a story, or that she and Danny would have had this Balboa Park engagement session– let alone be engaged at all.
After moving back from New York City, a place where she had spent the last seven years of her life, Kassy knew that she had to focus on building a life back on the coast where she was born. Deciding to throw herself into her job, new house, and new church, Kassy found herself happy and surrounded by an incredible community of peers, friends, and colleagues.
With bible study, volunteering at the Children’s ministry, and spending her time focusing on herself, Kassy didn’t think that she wanted to date– and certainly hadn’t looked at anyone she knew as “dateable”; but unbeknownst to Kassy? The man who helped her teach and work with the children of their church had fallen hard and fast for her welcoming heart, her incredible sense of humor, and how smart she was.
Though Danny spent months politely pursuing her and courting her, it was December when he finally convinced Kassy to at least go out to a coffee with him. And that decision? It might be what Kassy considers to be one of the best decisions she’s ever made. From the second he handed her the cup of coffee and she looked into his deep blue eyes and saw his encouraging smile, she finally let herself give Danny a chance.
And the man she met?
A kind-hearted, sentimental, sacrificial man who knew how to support her, show her love and affection, and who she could spend time doing absolutely nothing with. From the way they shared beliefs and morals to how he was fine just spending their first few dates eating food in their cozy clothes around Kassy’s kitchen counter, that small spark Kassy had felt that first date grew into an all encompassing love for Danny and a hope for what they could be.
Months later, Danny knew he was ready to propose; after all, he had known she was the one from the moment she walked into the Children’s Ministry. When it came to the proposal, Danny knew exactly what he wanted to do– and knew that he wanted it to be as sweet and sentimental (and storybook worthy) as the beginning of their relationship. The day started with Danny and Kassy grabbing coffee at the Fairmont in LA, revisiting their first date spot– and then to Church, where they had first met.
Knowing that Kassy’s idea of a perfect date would always include a massage, Danny knew that he’d have to include that in his perfect day before his proposal. After catching a movie, Danny surprised Kassy with massages at the Fairmont in Del Mar before family dinner in San Diego, where Kassy had grown up. And when Kassy least suspected it as they walked to dinner around the reflection pool? Danny got down on one knee, and pulled out the ring as their parents and family cheered them on from the balcony.
As Kassy said yes, all she could think about was how Danny had managed to blow all of her expectations of what her life would be like and what love could be like out of the water. With the romance and relationship that she’d always read about and dreamt about, they seemed to complete one another completely.
From the second we met Kassy and Danny for their Balboa Park engagement session, we could see how much they truly loved one another. With how Danny’s jaw nearly dropped when he saw Kassy walk out with her hair and makeup done, to the way that Kassy looked at Danny and became even more comfortable during the session as they explored around the park, it’s harder to look happier– and more in love– than these two did throughout their session.
As they warmed up to the camera and got to know our photographer better, this Balboa Park engagement session became even sweeter. With Kassy and Danny goofing off in front of the camera, posing and having fun like they would on any date, we could see how Kassy was able to take the session as it was– a chance to have fun and enjoy capturing such an important moment in their lives.
To Danny and Kassy; we feel so incredibly grateful that we get to capture such a momentous and happy time during your life. From getting to spend time with you at your Balboa Park engagement session and seeing how your love for one another radiates, to the way that your faith strengthens your bond, we absolutely adored getting to know you.
