We can’t tell you enough how much we absolutely adored shooting Kyle & Lorin’s beautiful Birch Aquarium wedding, and the story behind Kyle & Lorin’s love. A story that we’re not afraid to admit warms our hearts, even years after their stunning wedding day, we’re confident in saying we think you’ll adore it— and them— as much as we do.
After connecting online, there was an immediate spark. Bantering about their passions and finding a mutual love for Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Who, Harry Potter, & more, short texts became paragraphs and then calls until they decided to finally take the next step, meeting at North Bay in Carlsbad. And from that moment? It was as if that spark they ignited burst into a vibrant flame. The more Lorin & Kyle got to know about one another, the more everything just felt right. The way that they made one another laugh, feel supported, and brought out the best in one another, even when kicking one anothers’ butts at board games, was undeniable.
So after two and a half years, Kyle knew it was time. Wanting to create the perfect moment, he knew it would be their upcoming trip to Universal Studios, where he could craft the proposal of their dreams where they could celebrate two things they loved, Harry Potter & one another. When the day came, Kyle somehow managed to sneak the engagement ring through the metal detectors at Universal Studios (because love has its’ own ways of making things happen), and knelt before Lorin at the Harry Potter castle as a cast member took their photo, and asked Lorin to be his wife. Completely surprised yet overjoyed, Lorin said yes as they stood in front of the castle, snow swirling around them and the Christmas light show above them.
As they planned their wedding, they knew they wanted to be close to the beach without being directly on it— and a beautiful Birch Aquarium wedding was perfect. Reminiscent of their first kiss by the water yet avoiding getting all sandy, they began to plan their perfect day with the help of Amy from First Comes Love weddings. Picking out florals from I Do Flowers For You, and planning out every last detail, the excitement built for their beautiful Birch Aquarium wedding day; the day Kyle & Lorin would finally
With a flurry of excitement & emotion, the wedding day arrived. As Lorin and her bridesmaids were maid up by the talented Mobile Beauty team, the anticipation built for the moment that they’d see one another for the first time. And when the moment finally came? It lived up and beyond expectations.
Kyle, as he jokingly predicted, shed a tear or two as he saw Lorin come towards him, looking even more radiant than the day he had first met her— and he wasn’t the only one, as Lorin couldn’t help but join in. While they explored the aquarium alone, taking time to stop in front of the kelp tank and take a moment to soak in the moment, their friends and family filtered in for Kyle & Lorin’s ceremony at their Birch Aquarium Wedding.
As the theme song from Legends of Zelda played while they walked down the aisle, setting the perfect tone for a celebration of their love. And true to their story, their vows beautifully expressed their promise to love each other’s quirks and leave space for one another to be their authentic selves. We finally had one of our hardest tasks of the night— keeping our eyes dry behind our view finders as they walked down the aisle of their Birch Aquarium wedding to the cheers of their family and friends, finally husband & wife.
The rest of the night left to enjoy, Kyle, Lorin & their guests explored the aquarium and danced to tunes spun by DJ Mike Hogan as the two began the first of many nights surrounded by joy, love, and support.
