Sometimes the way you meet someone is because of someone else’s choice, and that one choice irrevocably leads you on a path that will change your life. And that was exactly the case for the couple in this Balboa Park Engagement Session, James and Janessa. Then James walked into the office as a new employee one fateful morning after being hired, everything just stopped for Janessa.
Getting to know one another through work, the two became closer and closer as friends. Yet Janessa knew that she really really liked James, and that as she was his senior and he was a good guy, he wouldn’t even take the chance to try something if she didn’t take the first step. So she did.. and he reciprocated her feelings!
It wasn’t long until days turned into months, months turned into years of the two dating. And after years of conversations about the future, James and Janessa decided to take the next step and get married– and James knew he wanted it to be special.
Even though Janessa thought she knew everything about her proposal after she and James had gone to pick out a ring, she didn’t know that James had a plan in store to make the moment even more memorable and actually surprising. As he kept the ring bag on their dresser, he secretly planned out the ~perfect~ proposal for her when she least expected it. And with the moment all planned out perfectly, he managed to catch her by surprise– and she said yes!
When James and Janessa saw our photographer Weston at a friend’s wedding, they knew– he was going to be the one that would photograph theirs. And from the way that they were able to connect during this Balboa Park engagement session and discuss their mutual favorite television shows, laughing and having fun during the session? It seemed like fate!
We absolutely love when our photographers and couples are able to get along as well as James and Janessa did with Weston during their Balboa Park engagement session. It makes the process so much more fun, especially when the other person understands why the Alcazar Gardens ~totally~ reminds you of Dorne from Game of Thrones– and isn’t afraid to talk about your favorite techniques to smolder the house down like the Drag Queens from Rupaul’s Drag Race.
And with friendship? These intimate moments between our couples are so much easier to photograph.
Throughout the session, it was clear to see how much they cared for one another. Whether it was the way how Janessa goofed off– and warmed up in the light drizzle– by doing jumping jacks and getting her groove on in between photos, while James watched her with the biggest smile on her face or the way they were so comfortable together on camera and posing together, it made getting the cutest photos a breeze.
As the three of them ventured around to get the perfect photos for their Balboa Park engagement session, it was clear that James and Janessa weren’t going to let a little rain bother them– or stop them from having an incredible time. Dodging drizzles and downpours, we got to get a little creative and come up with some incredible– and unique– shots for their engagement session.
To Janessa and James; From the moment we talked to you two, we knew that you two were so special; from your taste in television to the way that you two can make one another smile and laugh, even in drizzle, we can see how much you care for one another. During your Balboa Park engagement session, it was evident that even when you two are uncomfortable, you can make the best out of it and simply enjoy the moments that you two share together.
